Introducing Samira Turino

Introduction:

Hello! My name is Samira Turiño and I am a sophomore engineering major. I was the TA for the engineering design course last semester and am involved in several engineering clubs and publications around campus.

Interests:

I am heavily interested in English and Engineering, so I plan to find a professional path that allows me to explore both in a fulfilling fashion. I've recently become a McNair scholar so I am working towards finding a summer research position! In regards to engineering, I'm unsure what field I want to enter but I have really enjoyed all types of fabrication and the majority of my classes (👀).
Outside of academia; I love reading and creating things. I'm currently working on making a CD case with an ejection mechanism inspired by this Kalmar CD Case. I also have over 100 pairs of patterned socks so looking to make something to organize them all. I've included some pictures of my past personal projects below!

Expectations:

Since I've started using the MakerSpace, it has quickly become my go-to anytime I need something. Whether that be a napkin holder for my dorm, a new art piece for my wall, or a homemade gift, making things has become engrained in my day-to-day. I hope that everyone taking this class can achieve this level of interest in the space and acquire the skills to support their fabrication interests.
