  Process To start, I sketched out my design on paper before entering Fusion. This allowed me to think ahead of what sort of dimensions I was looking for in the first place. Then on Fusion, I went to the gear parts and picked out bevel gears that worked together. Ryan helped me understand how some of the numbers on gears work so that I was able to pick these gears that work well together. After this I sketched out all of the rods I was going to use in my gearbox. This allowed me to work around the gears and build up the box from the inside out. In this way I was able to better visualize what I wanted my end result to look like. I used a box building technique similar to that of project 2, but unfortunately more time consuming. One my models were complete I started cutting and printing. Cutting was interesting in the sense that plastic cuts actually come out very well on the laser cutter compared to wood since the plastic doesn't really burn. Process When I first started thinking of ideas for a final project, I immediately wanted to try my hand at making a custom chess board. The first step in my process was to design a simple chessboard frame in Fusion 360; I tried to keep it pretty plain while still including classy details like the rounded corners. I cut the board out on the CNC machine, sanded it down, and applied wood stain to tint it darker before calling it complete. My next step was to cut out 72 wood squares (64 squares for the board and 8 extra, just in case) with the Rayjet laser cutter; I cut these squares with 1.5 inches on each side and measured the height to ensure the squares would fit nicely into the chess board's middle indention. After these squares were cut, I sprayed them with primer and then painted half of them maroon and half of them white.  Process My goal was to create a CNC model of Ghostface, which was detailed with the laser cutter. I used this artwork for the base.  I started this process by creating a rough sketch of what I wanted to create for my project in MS Paint. I then ported this over to an external art program in order to further refine the design I wanted to create to both clean up the lines and so I ported  MS Paint Sketch SAI sketch I then sent this sketch to Adobe Illustrator and rasterized the image to transform the lines into a useable format that I could then send to the CNC machine. I exported this to Fusion360 so that I could build my model for CNCing. I then uploaded this program to the CNC machine and started to drill.   My end result was not what I was looking for. It was missing a cutout and due to the way I had set up my project, I had drilled the outside instead of the inside pieces first, leading to it messing up and me having to restart the cut. Proposal Statement I plan to make a detailed wooden chess board using the CNC and Laser cutter. It will be made in two parts, the base and squares, decorated separately and then assembled. I will then use the 3D printer for pieces and then paint them. Inspo pics Advise I'm expecting to ask my friends in Engineering and the MakerSpace for advice like usual (i.e. John and Meyer). Rough Game Plan I plan to make the base of the chess board using the CNC. To decorate it, I will engrave patterns onto the edge of the board then stain the material. I will make the squares of the board using the laser cutter. I will then paint them and glue them onto the base.  Proposal Statement I plan to make a desktop pencil/stickynote holder similar to project 2, but this time I want to add more features such as drawers and I want to use the acrylic plastic material as well. As a base I want to CNC a nice piece of wood for it to stand on. Additionally, I want to try and laser engrave some cool baroque designs into the faces of the piece.  Advise I talked to Ryan when I was still coming up with ideas for the project because I was unsure of what to make for some time. Coming into the class many of the things I wanted to make required a wood lathe, and even though the Makerspace is packed machines that is the one thing for me that is missing. Because of this we talked about alternative projects I could possibly do like table tops and fraternity paddles, but I decided to go with making a wooden side table.  I plan to make a scene for a project I'm a part of. This would be mainly two wooden cutouts of characters in poses I would then use to create a "collage" with them for the art piece. I would use the CNC to cut out the pieces then laser cutter the pieces to add more detail. The two main references I'm using are these two images listed below. This bottom piece is similar to what I plan to do for the background, I want a semi-roller rink appearance. I've discussed this project with Dr. Terrell about how this would come together. I talked with him about the size of wood that I would need, as I planned to potentially use a thinner piece of wood for the CNC. I also talked about how I could create the design and mix the elements of the CNC and Laser cutter, and how I would connect the two. Scott Wald Project 4: Desktop CNC

 Process: At the start, I created an STL file of the Island that I wanted to create. A lot of problems rose once I put the file into Fusion because of the amount of triangles that the file contained. This made fusion very slow and it crashed frequently during the creation process. The process involved getting rid of smaller islands next to Orcas island. I did this by creating abstract shaped sketches to extrude and get rid of unwanted parts. Then I created a Rectangular sketch around the island and extruded it up and down to make the plaque. After this, creating the adaptive drill paths initially took a long time to load because of the letters, but after realizing that the letters would not be possible to cut on the CNC, I decided to just take them off and I will have to laser engrave at a later time.
