Liberty Mata Proposal: Mixed Techniques
Proposal Statement
I plan to make a detailed wooden chess board using the CNC and Laser cutter. It will be made in two parts, the base and squares, decorated separately and then assembled. I will then use the 3D printer for pieces and then paint them.
Advise
I'm expecting to ask my friends in Engineering and the MakerSpace for advice like usual (i.e. John and Meyer).
Rough Game Plan
I plan to make the base of the chess board using the CNC. To decorate it, I will engrave patterns onto the edge of the board then stain the material. I will make the squares of the board using the laser cutter. I will then paint them and glue them onto the base. I will use the 3D printer to create custom chess pieces, and then paint them to differentiate each player’s pieces.
Needs
I will need a decently sized piece of wood (about ¾” thick) to create the base of the board, this material will be cut using the CNC and then laser engraved. Next I will need thin plywood for laser cutting the squares. Finally, I will need PLA for printing the pieces. To decorate, I will use paint and wood stain.
