Introducing Liberty Mata

Image
Introduction Hi everyone! My name is Liberty Mata and I'm a sophomore English and Human Communications double major at TU. Interests One of my favorite hobbies is playing chess! I used to play a lot of tournaments in high school, but now I mostly play for fun. Last semester, I was given the amazing opportunity to found the Trinity Women's Chess Initiative here on campus. Since, historically speaking, only 11% of chess players are women, I wanted to help mediate an especially gender-inclusive and non-competitive space for people of all identities to explore their interest in chess! I’m also on the Trinity Cheer team so you can spot me hyping up the crowds at most football and basketball games! In my free time away from chess and cheerleading, I love to study with friends, play cozy video games like Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley, and explore museums around San Antonio.                  (TU Cheer Media Day)          ...

Introducing Cassandra Ochoa

Introduction Hi, my name is Cassandra Ochoa, and I am the Animal Care and Resources Center supervisor. I will be completing my second year at Trinity in February. I graduated with a B.S. in Biology from The University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley.    Interests  I have always had a love for animals. As a young child, I remember telling my mother that I wanted to become a lion tamer! During my last year of college, I decided that I wanted to become a Game Warden, but I was introduced to laboratory animals instead. My career has helped me understand and care for the animals that are crucial to medical research.  While here at Trinity, I have also enjoyed helping students that have any questions or interest in working with research animals. Not many people or students know much about the industry because it is not talked about enough. I like to help any interested students the best way I can.  Sea Turtles are very popular in my hometown. Our dog, Scooby. Expectatio...

Introducing Nate Goodwin

Introduction Hi! I'm Nate Goodwin, and I'm a student that studies here at Trinity! I am a Freshman that started in 2023, and this is my second semester here. I am currently on the Pre-Med track, and intend for that to become my major, but I'm still on the whole undecided. Interests Academically, I'm on the whole undecided as previously mentioned, but I'd love to be a help around a hospital somewhere and think something along the line of radiology seems interesting.   On the personal side, I'm a big music head and love musical tournaments such as Megamix or DOATK. I love being able to contribute music/art to a collective passion project, it's really cool!   One of my favorite tournament characters, Ghostface.  Expectations I'm excited to just learn how to use the tools and programs like Fusion 360! I'm very sporadic in terms of what I plan to use the makerspace after the class, but having the experience to create stuff like coins and trinkets sounds e...

Hi, welcome to ENGR 2192 Intro to Making. I’m Ryan, the CSI MakerSpace space supervisor and prototype technician. Feels like an appropriate title as I like to make things and enjoy helping others get their make on. This is my sixth year at Trinity and I’ve been fortunate enough to see the space grow from a single-person garage to a real maker space with a thriving community. In that time, my focus has shifted from layout and the arms race of machine acquisition (we have almost everything a maker could want) to empowering the users (mostly students).  With that end in mind, I enrolled in an MA in creative leadership program two summers ago. The program emphasizes inclusive decentralized management and decision-making practices. So far, it has all been very applicable to the vibe of the CSI MakerSpace and has extracted from me the question: What could a student-led maker space feel and look like at Trinity? I’m not sure, but I plan to find out. We have 10 student workers suppo...

Introducing Scott Wald

Image
Introduction      My name is Scott Wald and I am a junior majoring in Economics. I have already finished my Economics coursework, so now I am exploring my other interests in coding, creating, and sports classes.  Interests      Economics was always my favorite subject in high school even though I had the class during COVID. My Economics teacher was very passionate about the subject and it made me think in very different ways than I was used to from my other classes. In Economics, I am primarily interested in classical theories and Financial Economics.      I've always played Trombone and luckily Trinity University gave me a music scholarship to support me in music ensembles. I've played in the Band and Orchestra, but the Jazz band has been my favorite since I get the opportunity to improvise.       Also, I am the Vice President of the Kappa Kappa Delta fraternity here at Trinity which helped introduce me to disc golf,...

Introduction: Hello! My name is Samira Turiño and I am a sophomore engineering major. I was the TA for the engineering design course last semester and am involved in several engineering clubs and publications around campus.  Interests: I am heavily interested in English and Engineering, so I plan to find a professional path that allows me to explore both in a fulfilling fashion. I've recently become a McNair scholar so I am working towards finding a summer research position! In regards to engineering, I'm unsure what field I want to enter but I have really enjoyed all types of fabrication and the majority of my classes (👀). Outside of academia; I love reading and creating things. I'm currently working on making a CD case with an ejection mechanism inspired by this  Kalmar CD Case . I also have over 100 pairs of patterned socks so looking to make something to organize them all. I've included some pictures of my past personal projects below!  Expectations: Since I've...

Introducing Dawson Durr

Introduction  My name is Dawson Durr and I am a sophomore engineering major. Interests I'm a huge 3D printing enthusiast and practically live in the makerspace. So far, I've created my own portal gun replica, a stormtrooper helmet, and most recently a full Mandalorian costume. I am currently in the planning process to make a 3D-printed electric guitar. Aside from 3D printing, I have been trying to get into the woodshop more with some more hands on projects. I recently built a pinewood derby ramp for TUFR. On campus I am an officer in SWE and ASME and involved with Dr. Treadway's lab, CAT, Stand Band, and the wind ensemble. I also enjoy playing disc golf, which Ryan recently introduced me to. I support the Dallas Cowboys every Sunday. Expectations I hope to see all of you get comfortable with using the makerspace and see y'all use it beyond this course. This course is a great opportunity that is very unique for non-engineering majors at other schools.
